First Prize

Clean, Clean, Clean, Mr. Octoclean!

by Kaila Kok (Renee Kok, YTL Construction)

“Every time I go to the beach, I see rubbish everywhere – plastic takeaway containers, cans, bottles, plastic bags, fishing wire. The poor sea creatures are dying with all this rubbish in the oceans! It makes me so sad and angry that sea creatures are being suffocated by plastic bags or strangled by fishing wire. So I decided to invent Mr. Octoclean! I can operate its 8 legs to help free the sea creatures that are caught in the rubbish (like the poor sea lion with fishing wire around his neck and the turtles, crabs and fish caught in plastic bags). It can also pick up the cans, bottles and other rubbish from the ocean floor and take them away for recycling. Mr. Octoclean can also suck in dirty water (like oil spills) and clean the water in its mouth! I hope that one day, my invention will become real and the sea creatures can live happily ever after in a rubbish free ocean!!”

Second Prize

My Bots Saving Earth

by Ryan Low Jun Jie, 54C

“MY BOTS SAVING EARTH means MY ROBOTS saving Earth. I was inspired by this idea of creating robots because I love to DESIGN and BUILD robots and I wanted to include that in my art piece. I got my inspiration by looking at a futuristic drone in a comic book and also from my mum’s vacuum cleaner. With that I drew 4 bots saving each element of Earth – land, sea, air and not forgetting space. Yes! We have space junk too, you know! Because my drawings are detailed, I used mainly marker pens of different colours to highlight my drawing. I hope you can see my inventions!”

Third Prize

Poor Turtle

by Khaira Qauthar Binti Kamarulzaman, 54C

“I made a turtle out of rubbish and recycled stuff because many turtles are endangered by the plastics and trash that we dump into the sea. They get stuck in the nets, they eat the plastics, straws stuck in the nose and many more. Let’s save the turtles, stop the sea pollutions.”

First Prize

Under the Sea

by Leong Yeow Shing (Leong Ying Choy, Straits Cement)

“This painting shows the sad story of whale and turtle that died because of oil pollution and garbage that was thrown into the ocean by irresponsible people. The whale and turtle ate the garbage as its food and was unable to breathe properly due to oil pollution on the ocean surface.”

Second Prize

Zero Waste Life with Ecobrick

by Dee Canawine (Heru Darsanto, YTL Jawa Timur)

“Plastic is a common waste we often met in our daily life. It takes 20 to 500 years to break down plastic. Ecobrick is a solid PET bottle that contained dry used plastic. Ecobrick can solved plastic that has piled up. So this artwork contained what is Ecobrick and how to make it.”

Third Prize

The Bad Impact of a Lot of Waste on the Earth

by Siti Zahrah Fitri Fadhillah (Khairiyanto, YTL Jawa Timur)

“There are many kinds of garbage on Earth. My sketch here is of two nature – land and sea/beach. In these two natural conditions, there is a lot of waste that fills their respective environments. It makes the environment dirty so that the Earth is illustrated to cry. Garbage is a lot and messy, so that animals are few because they are dead and rare.”

First Prize

“At construction site, there are plenty of waste materials such as PVC pipe, plastic paint containers, drinking bottle, damaged wood and more. But implementing some creativity, you can build your own personal gym equipments.”

– Low Xiu Wei, Syarikat Pembenaan Yeoh Tiong Lay

Second Prize

“Art and fashion intrinsically linked. So I brought fashion using only waste through my camera lens.”

– Abhilashini A/P Kanan, YTL Construction

Third Prize

“Recycling plastic items to turn them into cute penguins and icebergs so that we can also raising public awareness on environmental issues through waste.”

– Tan Yujing, YTL Corporation

First Prize

“From toxic chemicals to getting caught in plastic bags, it is sad to see aquatic animals dying from polluted water caused by us, humans. Water pollution has been a serious environmental issue which does not only cause harm to the aquatic animals, but also to our health. My artwork was inspired by the proverb ‘Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil’ with my own interpretation, to speak up about the current issues and to take action. The artwork shows a plastic bag being thrown in a polluted river. In my perspective, rivers are endless. It is impossible to restore a polluted river unless we do something about it. Being that, we should reduce, reuse and recycle and start spreading awareness on water pollution from now on so that we can all make a positive change in everyone’s lives.”

– Erica Yue Wai Yi, YTL International College of Hotel Management

Second Prize

“My art piece is about marine life. The original marine animals live in a clean and clear ocean, but because humans don’t take care of the environment of the Earth and the oceans, they keep throwing garbage such as plastic bags any where or into the sea, causing marine animals to die because they eat plastic bags as food or are entangled with plastic bags. And that plastic bag is like a mountain, which means that the iceberg is gradually melting because of humans’ failure to protect the Earth.”

– Wong Su Yee, YTL International College of Hotel Management

Third Prize

“Instead of throwing my old CD and DVD away, I converted them into candle holders, some molded into small bowl, some not. Then have fun with their different lights spectrum and reflections.”

– Chan Yoke Leng, YTL Cement Marketing
